SPE Honors Dr. Jason Lyons with 2025 President’s Cup for Exceptional Service and Leadership

The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) is proud to announce that Dr. Jason Lyons, Global Market Manager at Arkema, has been named the recipient of the prestigious SPE President’s Cup Award for 2025. The award was presented by 2025 SPE President Scott Eastman during ANTEC® 2026, recognizing Dr. Lyons’s more than 25 years of exemplary service and leadership within the Society.

First established in 1958, the President’s Cup is awarded at the discretion of the SPE President to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and contributions to the organization. Dr. Lyons’s impact spans decades of volunteer leadership, technical innovation, and strategic advancement of SPE’s global mission.

“Jason’s commitment to SPE is both deep and enduring,” said Eastman. “From his leadership at the division level to his service as SPE President, he has consistently strengthened the Society and advanced the plastics profession. His contributions exemplify the spirit of the President’s Cup.”

Dr. Lyons served on the SPE Executive Board as Vice President of Divisions beginning in 2016, culminating in his term as SPE President from 2021 to 2022. His leadership helped guide the organization through a period of transformation while reinforcing its focus on technical excellence and member engagement.

Earlier in his SPE career, Lyons played a pivotal role within the Engineering Properties & Structure Division (EPSDIV), where he served on the Board of Directors from 2010 to 2018. During that time, he launched the highly regarded EPSDIV Seminar Series, chaired the division in 2014, and contributed as Technical Program Chair in both 2010 and 2017. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Additive Manufacturing & 3D Printing Special Interest Group and has been a dedicated moderator at ANTEC® since 2010.

In addition to his volunteer leadership, Dr. Lyons has built an accomplished professional career at Arkema. Since joining the company in 2006 as a scientist, he has led the development of next-generation toughening agents and advanced materials, earning ten patents, and overseeing the successful commercialization of eleven products within the company’s plastic additives portfolio. Before assuming the global leadership role at Arkema for medical plastics, Dr. Lyons helped to scale new business initiatives for Arkema polymers sold into the aerospace market.

Dr. Lyons holds a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from Drexel University and a Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering from Philadelphia University. The SPE President’s Cup recognizes not only Dr. Lyons’s distinguished record of service, but also his lasting influence on the Society and the broader plastics community.

“It truly is an honor to be named recipient of the Presidents Cup,” said Lyons.  “SPE is an amazing organization that has helped me significantly on my career path. I thoroughly enjoy trying to not only preserve but grow the Society’s value for the next generation.”
